The Almost Undiscovered State
New Mexico is a breathtaking place that offers striking vistas, blue skies and moderate temperatures year round. With a population of about 850,000, the greater Albuquerque metropolitan area is big enough to offer lots of cultural, educational and recreational opportunities, yet small enough that life remains relatively stress free.
Albuquerque has been highly ranked in recent years by Forbes magazine as being one of the top cities in the country for jobs and business, and by other publications for its educated workforce, creativity, arts scene, overall fitness of citizens and quality of colleges.
The state has a long history of technical achievement as home to national laboratories and high tech businesses. The media and software industries are taking off, with movie-making, animation and game development booming. A chapter of the International Game Developers Association is based in Albuquerque, and local institutions of higher education are offering related programs.
The University of New Mexico was made a member of the Sony Pictures Imageworks Professional Academic Excellence Program in 2007. This supports the interdisciplinary Film and Digital Media Program at the school.
